Pernyataan Sikap WNI di Australia (in English)

JOKOWI, FULFILL YOUR PROMISE ON ANTI CORRUPTION..!

AND REJECT POLITICAL OLIGARCHS’ INTERESTS

The interests of political elites and Oligarchs have led to the weakening of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) as well as the criminalization of KPK commissioners by the police.  This is a direct result of the Police’s retaliation on KPK’s actions to name Commissioner General  Budi Gunawan as a suspect for a corruption case, which resulted in his delayed inauguration as Indonesia’s National Chief of Police.

In relation with this, we the JARINGAN MAHASISWA DAN MASYARAKAT ANTI KORUPSI DI SYDNEY (JARIMANIS) / Indonesia Students and Community Network on Anti Corruption in Sydney convey the following statement:

Under the Jokowi’s Nine Priority Program (Nawa Cita), President Jokowi and Vice President Jusuf Kalla have promised to reject any actions which can result in a “weak state” by reforming the system of government and ensure a corruption-free law enforcement mechanism through a dignified and reliable manner.

Jokowi’s decision to appoint an Attorney General from a political party and recommends a single a Chief of Police  candidate to the DPR, who has been named as a suspect of a Corruption case by the KPK is contrary to the Nawa Cita program. This shows that the President is currently being held hostage by the interests of the political oligarchy with their intent to maintain and accumulate their wealth and power.

The very strong influences of the political oligarchs have particularly been showcased by NasDem Party (Partai NasDem) and Indonesian Democratic Party for Struggle (PDI-Perjuangan) who insisted that the President inaugurate Budi Gunawan as Chief of Police and openly attacked the KPK. These Oligarchs also shown significant influence over the Police institutions to serve their interests and criminalize KPK leaders.

It must be noted that the weakening of the KPK will continue until the revision of the Law on Corruption Eradication Commission, the Revision of Penal Code (KUHP) and the Law on Criminal Procedure Code Bill (KUHAP).

Corruption is an extraordinary crime that should be handled by a strong and independent institution.

Therefore, we JARINGAN MAHASISWA DAN MASYARAKAT ANTI KORUPSI DI SYDNEY (JARIMANIS) / Indonesia Students and Community Network on Anti Corruption in Sydney demand the following:

1.      The President must remain consisted to his Nawa Cita (particularly the 4th Nawa Cita) and display his strong commitment and increase his efforts to combat corruption in Indonesia.

2.      President to withdraw the nomination of General Budi Gunawan as Police Chief and replace him with a police chief candidate that possess a clean record and who is committed in eradicating corruption.

3.      The President as the supreme commander of the armed forces and police should immediately undertake reforms in the police institution to ensure a stronger, more professional Police institution that is free from the interest of oligarchs.

4.      The President must take immediate efforts to save KPK from any forms of criminalisation and the institutional weakening both in the short term and long term.

5.      The President is elected directly by the people, thus he must be able to serve and represent the interests of the people and must not serve and represent political party interests. The President must be made aware that losing support from the people is more of a political liability than losing the support of the political oligarchs.
